The owners of Winx are celebrating the birth of the champion mare’s first foal, a filly, who arrived healthy and well on Friday night.
The filly is by Pierro, who stands at Coolmore Stud for a fee of $99,000.
“The Tighe, Kepitis, and Treweeke families are ecstatic to announce that the future champion we’ve all been waiting for has arrived,” Winx’s owners said in a statement.
“Both mum and foal are healthy and doing very well.
“Thank you to the amazing team who have cared for Winx and her filly throughout this journey.
“We wish Winx all the best as she starts this new chapter as a super mum.”
The mating with Pierro was Winx’s second attempt at motherhood, having lost her foal by I Am Invincible in the spring of 2020.
She was not served in the 2020 breeding season.
Chris Waller, who prepared Winx to win 37 of her 43 starts, including 33 wins in a row and a record $26,451,174 in prizemoney, tweeted is delight at the news.
“Today is a special day that Winx deserves and by my judgment I sensed a very proud Mum,” Waller said.
“Winx, you are an inspiration to me and so many others. Enjoy being a Mum & stay healthy. Special thanks to a dedicated farm.”
No decision has been made on who Winx might visit this breeding season.
The foal comes only a fortnight out from the Cox Plate, a race which she won four times during a 33-race unbeaten streak.
