Perth Racing has secured what will be one of the drawcard runners for the inaugural edition of The Quokka after it was confirmed late on Monday afternoon that Amelia’s Jewel would target the new race.
Amelia Park Racing, which races the Simon Miller-trained filly, announced on social media that the $4 million race over 1200m at Ascot on April 15 would be her first major target of 2023.
It means Saturday’s brilliant Group 1 Northerly Stakes winner will not be seen on the east coast until her four-year-old season, with the $10 million Golden Eagle (1500m) at Rosehill in Sydney next October her major spring aim.
“After much consideration our team along with Simon Miller Racing would like to advise that Amelia’s Jewel will be having a good spell with her aim being the new slot race The Quokka followed by a trip to Sydney for the Golden Eagle,” Amelia Park Racing tweeted.
Amelia’s Jewel solidified her reputation as one of the most exciting horses in the country with her Northerly Stakes win, which took her career record to six wins and a narrow second placing from seven starts.
