The in-form training partnership of Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr have shown interest in securing a spot in the inaugural running of The Quokka (1200m) at Ascot next year.
The powerful Melbourne stable have placed Lombardo ‘s name into the mix for the $4 million event, with 13 of the 14 slots still to be filled.
Speaking to TABradio this morning, co-trainer Kent Jnr said the Group 1 winner would profile as a perfect horse for the rich slot race.
“The one that would suit from our stable would be Lombardo,” Kent Jnr said.
“He’s a prolific winner.
“I think he’s won half of his starts and won The Goodwood.
“He’d be ideally suited to that race.
“If anyone wants to do a deal, give us a call.”
Lombardo beat TABtouch-Gold Rush winner The Astrologist in the Goodwood (1200m) earlier this year and connections of that runner have also shown interest in getting a slot.
The six-year-old had just one start in the spring in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield and was unplaced.
As well as the Goodwood win, Lombardo is also a two-time Listed winner in Melbourne.
