Mornington trip pays off for jockey Craig Williams

Leading jockey Craig Williams liams made the trip to Mornington for one ride and came away a winner aboard a horse he thinks is headed to Stakes grade.

The Charlotte Littlefield -trained She’s Bulletproof took out the Big Event Picnic Tables Plate (1200m) on Wednesday at her second start, although it was not as easy as her starting price of $1.24 suggested.

Sitting outside of the leader, She’s Bulletproof held off a late challenge from Pink Chandon ($8.50) to score by a half-neck with Savee ($6.50) holding on for third, a further 1-¼ lengths away.

Williams partnered with She’s Bulletproof when the filly was placed at Moonee Valley on debut last month and said the filly was still inexperienced.

“She’s a really nice filly and this is one of the first stepping stones for her,” William told racing.com.

“She did show her inexperience a couple of times. She was having only her second race start and she did appreciate finding firmer footing in the straight.

“I was really happy and pleased. She looks great and Charlotte and her team is managing her well and she’s an exciting ‘Black Type’ filly in the making.”

Littlefield returned late on Monday after a holiday in the UK visiting her parents in time to see She’s Bulletproof salute on Wednesday.

She’s Bulletproof was bred by Littlefield’s husband Julien Hay and continues a successful run the stable is currently having.

Wednesday’s victory was Littlefield’s fourth winner from her past 10 starters with three placegetters thrown in for good measure.

“It’s what happens when you have good horses coming through, a good team around you and I can go away on holidays more often,” Littlefield said.

“But I’m glad I was here to see that.”

Littlefield said she did have some concerns as the field was racing to the hometurn and whether the Soft 6 track was acting against She’s Bulletproof.

“I did get a little bit nervous on the turn as I was worried whether her fitness was going to hold,” Littlefield said.

“She had four weeks between runs, and I know with the testing ground it was going to be a little ordinary to watch in the final stages, but she dug deep.

“I think she’s a lot better on top of the ground and she was only about 85 per cent fit, so I know there’s a lot more to come.”
