Godolphin’s powerful broodmare band had received a high-profile addition on the eve of the breeding season with the curtain drawn on the racing career of dual Group 1 winner In Secret.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s operation revealed on Monday afternoon via a statement that the daughter of I Am Invincible had suffered a suspensory injury in her right foreleg, which would rule her out of the upcoming Spring Carnival.
“As an important mare for our breeding operation, we have decided that rather than look to race on, we would introduce her into our broodmare band now, where we expect she will make a significant impact,” the statement read.
“As a standout sprinter for Team Godolphin, In Secret secured five Stakes wins, notably recording victories in the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes and the G1 Newmarket Handicap.
“We hope to enjoy her continued contribution as the mother of our future racing stars for many years to come.”
A decision on which of Godolphin’s big team of stallions, which is headlined by Street Boss’s Anamoe, will be made before the commencement of the breeding season on September 1.
In Secret, a $900,000 Magic Millions yearling who is out of the former speedy Choisir mare Eloping, had the last of her 15 starts in the Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m) on June 1, in which she finished third behind I Wish I Win and Bella Nipotina.
That was one of six minor placings, four of them at Group 1 level, while the biggest of her six wins came over the famous Flemington ‘Straight Six, in the 2022 Coolmore Stud Stakes and the following year’s Newmarket Handicap.
