Storm Boy to continue his career overseas

Storm Boy appears to have run his last race in Australia with owners Coolmore announcing he will continue his career overseas.

The high-class colt, who finished third as favourite in the Golden Slipper, will join the powerful Aidan O’Brien team at Ballydoyle with a view to competing in some of Euorpean racing’s biggest sprints.

“Talented three-year-old Storm Boy will travel to Ireland to be trained by Aidan O’Brien at Ballydoyle, with a view to contesting top sprint races in Europe next season,” Coolmore said via X on Tuesday.

Prepared by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Storm Boy was an emphatic winner of the San Domenico Stakes (1100m) first-up in August before placing in The Run To The Rose (1200m).

He was beaten just over half a length when fourth to Broadsiding in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) and finished within two lengths of form mare Bella Nipotina in The Everest (1200m).

Coolmore purchased a managing stake in Storm Boy following his Magic Millions Classic win earlier this year and stand his sire Justify at their American base.

Storm Boy could find himself on a collision course with another of Coolmore’s top three-year-olds in the Chris Waller-trained Switzerland.

Waller flagged a possible Royal Ascot tilt for Switzerland next year following his outstanding victory in Saturday’s Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington.
