Top trainer Simon Miller is aiming for a new milestone victory to follow up his first Group 1 win at the recent Northerly Stakes when his stable star Amelia’s Jewel represents TABtouch in Western Australia’s first thoroughbred slot race.
Simon Miller said he was thrilled to partner with TABtouch for the inaugural event, and The Quokka seemed to be perfectly timed for continuing the filly’s successful campaign.
“We had the option of going east in the autumn for a race like The All Star Mile but it was a tight turnaround from the Northerly Stakes. The Quokka allows her extra time in the paddock,” Simon said.
“Owner Peter Walsh is a local boy who has invested a lot of money into WA racing and his decision to remain in Perth for the autumn demonstrates his loyalty to racing in the state.
“To have Amelia’s Jewel in The Quokka, which is run on the same day as the Karrakatta Plate, a race sponsored by Peter and his Amelia Park operation, is very rewarding.”
In revealing the runner in The TABtouch Quokka slot, Racing and Wagering Western Australia Chief Wagering Officer Michael Saunders said he was excited to have locked in one of Australia’s most talked-about fillies for the $4 million race.
“Our search for an exceptional racehorse and trainer started in November and Amelia’s Jewel not only caught our eye but the eyes of the nation with her runs this summer,” Michael said.
“Amelia Park made for a great slot partnership, ensuring our customers can go on the ride with us via TABtouch’s social media channels.”
The Quokka will run on Saturday, 15 April 2023 at Ascot Racecourse as part of the richest weekend in Western Australian racing history.
It will be preceded by The Nullarbor, with $1 million prize money, and The Sandgroper with $500,000 on Friday, 14 April 2023, as part of The Western Trilogy slot race series.
