The barrier draw for the Magic Millions 2yo Classic was held on Tuesday morning on the Gold Coast with mixed luck for those prominent in betting. Infatuation, a filly by I Am Invincible who fetched $400,000 in the 2022 yearling sale, drew barrier 8 of 21, which will see her jump from barrier 5 if the emergencies fail to gain a start.
Infatuation is one of the more experienced horses in the $2.5 million feature with four starts under her belt and trainer Bjorn Baker was thrilled with the draw.
“Really good gate. You just don’t want to draw too wide, but we can all overanalyse it, she’s got good tactical speed anyway, she’ll get into gate 5 if the emergencies come out as expected and I’m really happy with her,” Baker said.
Infatuation firmed slightly with the TAB from $9.50 into $9 after the draw, with race favourite Empire Of Japan drifting slightly from $4.20 to $4.60 after drawing barrier 11, which will likely come into 8.
Unbeaten filly for Tony Gollan Skirt The Law, who was a dominant 5.3 length winner last start at Doomben has been the biggest firmer, tightened in from $14 to $9.50 having drawn ideally in barrier 4.
Platinum Jubilee for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott has remained at $6.50 after drawing nicely in barrier 7, which would see her jump from barrier 4 if the emergencies come out and has replaced Sovereign Fund as outright second pick, with the Snowden colt drawing barrier 17.
As for Infatuation, who broke her maiden in an open 2yo event at Randwick last start, Baker is confident she’s ready to peak on Saturday.
“She’s travelled up really well, her work has been really good since her last run, I’m confident she’s improved and if that’s the case she goes in a good chance,” Baker said.
