Jockey Brett Prebble strikes again for Waterhouse-Bott

The experience and horsemanship of Brett Prebble has been vital in helping Tulloch Lodge youngster Introducing land a promising debut win at Warwick Farm as the jockey continues his stellar run for the stable.

Since relocating to Sydney in January, Prebble has had six rides for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott for four wins, highlighted by his Canonbury Stakes success on the Golden Slipper-bound Red Resistance.

After Prebble again got the job done aboard Introducing in the Furphy Plate (1000m) on Wednesday – his only ride at the meeting after scratchings – Bott said it was a fitting reward for the former Melbourne and Hong Kong-based hoop’s hard work behind the scenes.

“He is a very well experienced jockey around the world so it’s great to have someone of his calibre helping out during the week,” Bott said.

“He is obviously doing plenty of hard yards to make his presence (felt) here in Sydney and he’s been able to deliver on the results so happy to continue supporting Brett.”

Prebble had his work cut out on Wednesday when Introducing ($2.45 unibet fav), a colt by first season sire Trapeze Artist, was temperamental on the way to the barriers before dwelling slightly at the start.

But he was able to scoot through and take up the running after a couple of hundred metres and proved too strong for Capital Heart ($3.60) despite racing greenly in the straight.

“He got really upset going to the barriers and he wanted to take off,” Prebble said.

“I did my best to keep him calm and save his energy as best I could but he’s very new, he’s raw.”

A $380,000 Easter yearling, Introducing is a half-brother to multiple stakes winner Eleven Eleven.

Bott said the youngster was loaded with ability and did a good job to cope with the heavy conditions and overcome his inexperience to open his career with a metropolitan win.

“We took a few risks coming here today with a few unknown factors so it was good to see him get the job done,” Bott said.

“He is still a bit raw and there is a good bit to improve on, but he’s got plenty of upside.”
