Broadsiding primed for Caulfield Guineas 2024 assault

With one important contest under the belt, it is now time for number two when Broadsiding heads to the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas.

Crowned Champion Two-Year-Old of the season in Adelaide on Tuesday night, Broadsiding will be out to continue the momentum he built as a late two-year-old and early three-year-old when he runs at Caulfield for the first time on Saturday.

Trainer James Cummings said the Caulfield Guineas was a new challenge for Broadsiding after his first-up win in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on September 28.

The Godolphin team is focused on winning the Caulfield Guineas, a race it won with Anamoe in 2021 and Golden Mile the following year and any talk of a start in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 26 will not be entertained until after Saturday.

“We’re well on our way into his preparation,” Cummings said.

“His first-up assignment was concluded successfully and now the big test, second-up at 1600 (metres) in the Caulfield Guineas where he’ s going to bump into match-fit opponents at set weights at a track he’s never seen.

“He’s proven that he can rise to the challenge and he’s going to be arriving at the race as the perfect progression for him.

“It’s a perfect next step for him as he continues the momentum he has got against his own age before the potential for something stronger to come along, but we’re just focusing on the Caulfield Guineas for now and we’re so pleased with how he’s come through the Golden Rose.

“He’s feeling so well and should be ready to fire for the Caulfield Guineas.”

Broadsiding has remained in Sydney since the Golden Rose to prepare for the Caulfield Guineas with Cummings saying the colt will not be fazed by the float trip to Melbourne on Wednesday night.

Cummings said Broadsiding had raced from the Godolphin team’s Carbine Lodge complex at Flemington and will be familiar with the surrounds on arrival.

And the trainer is confident in the work the team has done preparing Broadsiding as he chases a fourth Group 1 win in his past five starts.

“We’re pretty confident in our processes getting him prepared for the Guineas,” Cummings said.

“We have tailor-made preparations for each horse because they’ re all individuals and that’s the way we get them ready.

“Kementari came to the Caulfield Guineas, he just got rolled, while Anamoe, Golden Mile, they were horses that got to the Guineas and were ready to run big races.

“Broadsiding will be no different and he continues to show all the benefits of having residual fitness from that campaign in Brisbane.”
