Coolmore has secured an experienced replacement for James McDonald on the opening day of The Championships, with Ryan Moore set to ride at Randwick on April 5.
Tom Magnier, Coolmore Australia principal, confirmed on Tuesday that arrangements were nearly complete for the British jockey to step in for McDonald’s planned rides for the global racing powerhouse.
“The Dubai World Cup meeting is happening next weekend, and James was heading there, so Ryan will come down here instead,” Magnier shared with Sky Sports Radio.
“James McDonald will ride our horse in Dubai for Aidan, taking Ryan’s spot in the Gold Cup.”
“Ryan is part of the team, and he keeps a close eye on these races, so he was thrilled when I asked if he wanted to come down.”
Moore is set to partner with Switzerland, who may be making his final Australian start in the $3 million Group 1 T J Smith Stakes (1200m).
The Snitzel progeny has not placed in his two starts since claiming the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, finishing fourth in the Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) and sixth in the Canterbury Stakes (1300m).
Coolmore will also field a runner in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ on April 5, though a decision is pending on whether last Saturday’s Golden Slipper runner-up Wodeton will contest the 1400m race.
If Wodeton does not compete, Moore will take the reins on the Ciaron Maher-trained State Visit in the Sires’.
