Let’srollthedice too good in the G2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes

Connections of Let’Srollthedice have a lot to look forward to after the Danny O’Brien-trained colt made the leap from maiden company to win at stakes level at Flemington.

A debut winner at Bendigo on heavy ground on March 1, Let’srollthedice took out the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on Saturday.

Ridden by Damian Lane, Let’srollthedice scored a three-quarter length win from Man In The Mirror with the leader Yaki Ishi holding on for third, a further neck away.

O’Brien said Let’srollthedice, a son of Dundeel, was a lovely yearling selected by noted bloodstock agent John Foote.

“He came through our system and obviously being a Dundeel we were never going to push him,” O’Brien said.

“He had a trial or two in January and then went to Bendigo and did the job there.”

O’Brien praised Lane for his ride with the stable striking up a successful partnership in recent times.

“He was in a good stalking position, three wide with cover with the opportunity to come into the race and no one is riding better than Damian at the moment,” O’Brien said.

“He just seems to be timing everything beautifully. That’s seven or eight winners from his last ten rides for us, so we’re very happy with how things are going.”

Being a heavy track Bendigo winner on debut and now successful at 1400m, O’Brien said a trip to Sydney for the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) and the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) would now be considered.

Lane said Let’srollthedice is an exciting horse that will only continue to improve.

“He was a raw horse when he came into the stable this prep and he’s taking it in his stride and continuing to improve,” Lane said.

“You’re never quite sure where they’re going to get to, but I’m optimistic at this stage.”

“Let’srollthedice is stomping up as well.”Two career starts, two career wins for the talented colt
