Confidence is a great thing in racing and there has been no better exponent of that than Danny’s St Darci who will be aiming for three straight wins when she runs at The Valley.
Down to run in the $175,000 VOBIS Gold Carat (1200m) on Saturday, Danny’s St Darcy will be attempting her fourth win in five starts which was punctuated with a second over Saturday’s course and distance.
Danny’s St Darcy was beaten by Luna Cat, an opponent on Saturday, at The Valley on December 3, but immediately bounced back for successive wins at The Valley and Caulfield.
Trainer Archie Alexander concedes Saturday’s race is a tougher contest than what she has been meeting, but at the same time did not want to bypass the opportunity at some good prize money.
“She’s done really well and she has surprised us a little,” Alexander said.
“With racing she has improved. She enjoys it, she’s thrived on it and has been winning and confidence is a great thing.
“The form around her may be a little bit questionable, but even so, it’s a restricted race with very good money on offer, so we’re hopeful.
“She’s been racing well, so she deserves her shot.”
Danny’s St Darci is the second-highest rated runner in Saturday’s contest on a handicap rating of 75, with most rivals still in their 60’s.
Finance Tycoon does hold an edge on his rivals with an 85 handicap-rating courtesy of his win in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate as a two-year-old, a win on the Gold Coast during the Magic Millions Carnival and later in the VOBIS Showdown at Caulfield last April.
However, Finance Tycoon is only the $3.10 second favourite with TAB behind Pinstriped at $2.80 while Danny’s St Darci is on the third line at $4.80.
