Flying Trapeze aims for the All-Star Mile with $40,000 guaranteed

Flying Trapeze may be the outsider in the All-Star Mile at Flemington, but for his connections, it’s a chance to race against stars like Mr Brightside for a significant payday.

Trainer Gary Portelli said the $40,000 guaranteed for finishing last is a reason enough to take a shot at Saturday’s Group 1, adding that it will give the ownership group something to remember.

With only seven horses in the field, Flying Trapeze is assured of $40,000 if he finishes last. Portelli joked, “Who knows, there could be a ‘Steve Bradbury’ situation.”

The race’s prize pool offers $1.5 million to the winner, with progressively smaller amounts down to sixth place.

Portelli shared that Flying Trapeze is owned by a group of ladies who enjoy the race day experience, with memories of competing in Group 1 races that will last a lifetime.

“He’s no world beater, but he’s a beautiful horse,” Portelli said, emphasizing how excited the owners are to have a chance at such a big race.
