Ghodeleine to find winning form at Sandown

Andrew Noblet would like to see a little more rain before starting Ghodeleine at Sandown.

The seven-year-old daughter of Monaco Consul runs in the Ladbrokes Easy Form Handicap (2100m) on Wednesday having scored over 1600m at the track three starts previously.

Noblet said the mare had been unlucky in her two most recent outings, finishing fourth at The Valley on July 31 before reappearing a week later at Flemington to finish third over 2000m.

Ahead of Ghodeleine that day was Hosier and Tooradin, two gallopers that are highly regarded by their respective trainers.

Noblet said Ghodeleine had her momentum halted when beaten less than a length that day.

“She’s going super,” Noblet said.

“I think every run she’s had this prep has been good. She’s been unlucky in a couple of runs where things haven’t worked out her way when she hadn’t drawn that well.

“She gets barrier one tomorrow, on the big track, and she races well there as well.

“She should be in the mix.”

Noblet said he would be guided by Ghodeleine’s performance on Wednesday before deciding on how here program may look later on.

He said a wet spring would be music to his ears.

“She loves gives in the ground. She’s in great form and she can handle a sustained prep,” Noblet said.

“I will see what happens tomorrow, but after that I might give her a little freshen and aim at the back end of the spring, if her form warrants it.

“And we know it can rain over the Melbourne spring.”

Noblet has not ruled out aiming higher than the Benchmark 78 grade race on Wednesday later in the spring and may look to the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup carnival.

“That might be aiming a little high, but if she can recapture the form she’s in now, she can be competitive in anything,” Noblet said.
