Glint Of Silver will be conceding race experience to several of his more fancied rivals but trainer Matt Dunn says the debutant is not lacking in ringcraft.
A delay in naming the son of Rubick meant he had to wait to trial officially, so Dunn gave him a couple of extra jump outs and he believes they will hold the colt in good stead when he takes on a bumper field of 19 rivals, six with race experience, in Saturday’s Listed Inglis Nursery (1000m) at Randwick.
“His name took a long time to come through. It wasn’t anybody’s fault, a couple of the owners were just slower in getting their paperwork in,” Dunn said.
“He probably had two more jump outs than what horses normally would through my system, so even though he has only had one trial, he is pretty experienced.”
Glint Of Silver narrowly won his Warwick Farm trial last week but appeared to have plenty up his sleeve.
Slightly tardy to begin, he quickly mustered speed to camp off frontrunner Merisi before lengthening stride stylishly under his own steam to score.
A wide draw in 15 has dented Dunn’s optimism but he says the youngster has been showing positive signs on the training track as well as in his trial and just needs some luck to feature.
“He is working with horses a bit older than him who have won races and working quite well beside them,” Dunn said.
“That is normally a good test.
“He seems to be sticking with them pretty well, so I wasn’t really surprised to see him trial that well.
“I would have loved if he drew a decent gate. From out there, he’s going to need a fair bit of luck to get in but if the rain comes, maybe it’s not such a bad thing.”
A $130,000 Inglis Classic Sale purchase, Glint Of Silver was at $16 with TAB fixed odds on Thursday with Victorian Boldinho a $2.60 favourite on the strength of his debut second to promising juvenile Ebhaar in the Merson Cooper Stakes at Caulfield.
