Godolphin sets Dipsy Doodle as a goal for Rosehill winner

She didn’t execute the race to perfection, but Dipsy Doodle’s class shone through as she posted her second career win at Rosehill to book herself a shot at the Listed Woodlands Stakes at Scone.

Bringing up James Cummings’ 27th two-year-old win of the season, Dipsy Doodle ($2.70 unibet fav) mustered speed to take up the running and despite racing keenly, she kicked strongly when challenged to deny Thunderlips ($7) by a half-length with the fast-finishing Ducasse ($16) third.

The filly brought solid formlines to Saturday’s race having finished fourth to stablemate and subsequent Blue Diamond Prelude winner Barber on debut in October, then running third to Percy Sykes Stakes placegetter Kimochi in midweek grade before breaking her maiden at Warwick Farm last start.

Godolphin representative Darren Beadman confirmed they would now lift the bar and give her a chance at some black-type in the Listed Woodlands Stakes (1100m) at Scone in a fortnight, a race the stable won last year with In Secret.

“She will probably go to the Woodlands. That looks an ideal type of race for her and we’ve had a bit of luck in that race over the past few years,” Beadman said.

“Surprisingly, midrace she really latched onto the bridle and probably did a little bit too much in the middle stages.

“But her fitness and her ability and her class got her through over the concluding stages.

“She is naturally a very feisty, strong-spirited filly and she really put that into play the last hundred metres and was strong to the line.”

With Godolphin apprentice Zac Lloyd committed to rival Dumebi, fellow junior rider Dylan Gibbons picked up the winning mount.

Gibbons said that while Dipsy Doodle didn’t put a gap on her rivals, she showed a professional attitude to lift when it mattered.

“The best part about her win was when I clicked her to come up underneath me, she probably didn’t give me what I thought she was going to, but I just loved her last hundred metres,” Gibbons said.

“Once the challengers came, she really knew what to do then.”
