James Cummings is still tossing up whether to split gun colts Aft Cabin and Golden Mile next weekend, or keep them both in Sydney for one more run.
With the Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill and C S Hayes Stakes (1400m) at Flemington both held next Saturday, Godolphin has the option of keeping their three-year-olds apart by sending one interstate.
Both horses were initially slated to clash in the Hobartville Stakes but Cummings admitted the team were having second thoughts with a final call to be made in the coming days.
“Do they split up next week or do we just wait?” Cummings said.
“We will have a talk about that on Monday and we’ll make up our mind.”
Aft Cabin resumed with a devastating win against his own age in the Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) last month, while Golden Mile took on the older horses in the Expressway Stakes (1200m), placing behind Mariamia.
Whichever way Cummings decides to go, Aft Cabin and Golden Mile will almost certainly head in different directions at their following start with one to line up in the Randwick Guineas (1600m) in Sydney and the other the Australian Guineas (1600m) in Melbourne, both on March 4.
Godolphin had a memorable afternoon on Saturday, plundering the two Blue Diamond Preludes (1100m) at Sandown with Barber and Exploring before notching a black-type double in Sydney courtesy of In Secret and weight-for-age star Anamoe.
Corniche also finished third behind stablemate Barber in the colts and geldings division, giving Godolphin a strong hand in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes later this month.
“She was excellent Exploring,” Cummings said.
“The colt, Corniche, he was third again but he had to pop wide a little soon before the turn and I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Corniche yet.
“But what about the return of Barber? He is definitely the excitement machine. He’s a little bulldog, a very precocious two-year-old and ready-made.
“The targets are ahead of him and it’s just going to get more serious from now on in for him.”
Anamoe and In Secret will both remain in Sydney for Group 1 targets with Anamoe to tackle the Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) and In Secret the Surround Stakes, both at Randwick in a fortnight.
