Home Affairs has recorded a dominant victory in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington giving both Chris Waller and James McDonald a winning treble for the meeting.
The I Am Invincible colt took up a forward position from an outside draw and at the 300m unleashed an impressive turn of foot, leaving rivals in his wake for a three length success over Bruckner and Artorius.
“This is what we come for,” winning jockey James McDonald said.
“To ride such a special colt like this; he was electric today. I couldn’t believe at the furlong that I was so far in front.
“That is the acceleration of this horse, he just idled through his paces early. Nothing could keep up with him and he ran out the six furlongs so strong.
“He is a weapon this horse.”
Home Affairs’ return to the winner’s circle comes after a fading ninth in The Everest behind stablemate Nature Strip.
Following the disappointment, the stable applied a nose roll and tongue tie to the colt.
“He just changed a bit of gear, got the horse to relax. I did a bit of work on him the other day and gee he felt good up that straight. He just pricked his ears from probably the 600m on and when I let him go he let rip. He’s a beautiful specimen.”
After commencing the day with a race to race double with Fangirl and Great House, Home Affairs provided Chris Waller and James McDonald with a treble at Flemington.
Having combined for more than 20 winners in combination so far this season and more than 250 winners total, Waller and McDonald have taken their partnership south for the rest of the spring carnival.
“He is such a good trainer,” McDonald said. “We say it over and over all the time.”
The victory continues Chris Waller’s affinity with the Coolmore Stud Stakes with the training having now won the event on five occasions.
Home Affairs in winning the 2021 Coolmore Stud Stakes follows in the footsteps of past Waller winners Zoustar (2013), Brazen Beau (2014), Japonisme (2015) and September Run (2020).
