Ice Pick Nick chasing the rich VOBIS Gold Dash

Not much more can be asked from a young horse than delivering two wins from two starts – a perfect record – and Ice Pick Nick has done just that so far.

After winning on debut at Ararat over 1100 metres, the three-year-old gelding by Frosted followed-up at Moonee Valley in open company to win over 1200 metres under lights on 25 March.

His next task is the VOBIS Gold Dash (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Linda Meech has been aboard in both of those runs she retains the ride again with co-trainer Dave Eustace saying that horse is ready to go.

“He’s really trained on great,” Eustace said.

“He shown that he’s quite sharp and at The Valley he showed that he is above average.”

“He looks to have progressed.”

Eustace note the competitive nature of the event on a day focused on the Victorian Owners and Breeders Incentive Scheme boosted prizemoney and bonuses.

Ice Pick Nick shares equal second favouritism at $5 in the early TAB market after acceptances were taken, alongside the James Cummings-trained Arcaded.

“There’s the Godolphin horse (Arcaded) so we are wary of the competition.”

While Midwest is also at the $5 quote, the early favourite at $4.20 is last start Caulfield winner Scissor Step who sticks to the 1100-metre trip and is shooting to further improve on his record of three wins and four placings in nine starts over that distance.
