Dual Group 1 placegetter She’s Ideel has one glaring omission from her resume – she is yet to win a stakes race.
It is a statistic trainer Bjorn Baker is hoping the backmarker can finally rectify in Saturday’s Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) at Randwick.
“She is yet to win a stakes race, so that’s the first aim,” Baker said.
“She hasn’t had the best of luck at times, hopefully we can get luck Saturday.”
She’s Ideel has placed in stakes company at five of her past seven starts, twice at the highest level including a slashing first-up third behind Mo’Unga and Verry Elleegant in the Winx Stakes.
She followed with a midfield effort in the Chelmsford Stakes when Baker felt her inside draw was costly.
“It was still a good run but just gate one when the rain came was a bad place to be and she may well jump from gate one on Saturday,” Baker said.
“That’s a bit of a concern. She’s going to have to get back and make her own luck but I’m very confident she’s going well. Hopefully she can run a good race and then on to the Metropolitan.”
She’s Ideel, a daughter of top stallion Dundeel, is also entered for the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cups and if she can continue her strong form in Sydney, both races are firmly on the radar.
Bookmakers have marked her a $3.40 favourite for Saturday’s middle-distance feature and even with Jason Collett to ride a half kilo over at 53.5kg, she looks well suited under the set weights and penalties conditions of the race.
