I’Mlovin’Ya could back-up into Melbourne’s premier two-year-old race after her stylish breakthrough victory at Flemington.
Trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr will assess the filly before the acceptance deadline on Tuesday for the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.
After a debut midfield finish at Caulfield on January 26, I’mlovin’ya raced on the speed before taking out the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) on Saturday.
Ridden by Damian Lane, I’mlovin’ya ($6.50) scored by three-quarters-of-a-length from the $5.50 favourite Waltz On By with Lambda ($16) a further 1-½ lengths away third.
“That was great,” Price said.
“We raced the mother (Loveyamadly) who still holds the 1100-metre track record so that family has bloomed, and she becomes a nice stakes-winner by Capitalist.
“She’s a baby still but the question will be asked whether to accept next week for the Blue Diamond, but I don’t know that one (answer) yet.
“The debut run was, ‘miss the start, had no joy and get off their backs and run home late’, so I tried to nurse her along.
“I do think that she’s a horse that will keep improving maturity-wise.”
Lane said the race worked perfectly.
He said he was able to follow Waltz On By while at the same time tell himself to be patient.
“The stable have a big opinion of her running her is they ran her in a Preview first-up and she’s backed that up today with a good run and a good win,” Lane said.
“She gives the feel of a nice horse. She’s not really big but she makes up for it in her attitude and how hard she tries.”
