Invincible Woman provided the Lloyd Kennewell and Lucy Yeomans stable with a milestone victory with her debut win at Caulfield Heath.
The win of Invincible Woman in the Magic Millions VIC 2YO Classic (1100m) on Saturday was the first for Kennewell and Yeomans with a yearling purchased together.
Yeomans became an integral part of the Kennewell stable when she joined the team 18 months ago and the Magic Millions Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast in January was their first opportunity to purchase a horse together.
To make the victory even sweeter for Yeomans, Invincible Woman is owed by an all-female syndicate.
“She was the first one through the ring,” Yeomans said.
“She actually got passed-in, and we were very quick to run out the back and purchase her.
“Lloyd’s had some all-women’s horses in the past, but hadn’t had much luck, and I said, ‘Come on, we need to spend more money this year now that you’ve got a female co-trainer.
“We’ve got her for a steal now, it seems.”
Ridden by Damian Lane, Invincible Woman ($3.80) scored a 2-¾ length win from Zouclaire ($6.50) with the $2.15 bookies favourite Bacash a further 1-¼ lengths away third.
Yeomans said the plan was to head to the Gold Coast for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on January 11, providing the filly recovers from her debut victory.
While Invincible Woman will be racing for $3 million in prize money, there is a $500,000 Woman’s Bonus, paid to the first four all-female horses, irrespective of their finishing positions.
“Hannah Matheson, who I know from Ciaron Maher’s, bred her and we’ve got just a bunch of great women that have other horses with us,” Yeomans said.
“They’ve all banded together and kicked the boys out, so it’s all girls in this one.
“There’s obviously a good bonus, and even without the bonus it’s a prestigious race to win, but we’ll be guided by her, see how she comes through it.
“We don’t just think she’s a two-year-old. We think she’s got a bright future and is a progressive filly, so we’re not going to force the issue if she’s not telling us she wants to go.”
