Jim Litt is confident the trio of runners engaged at Randwick on Saturday are more than capable of putting in bold displays for him while he caretakes for his son Richard.
With three engaged runners at Randwick on Saturday, Jim Litt is out to make sure things operate as smoothly as possible while he’s in charge of his son Richard’s stables, who is overseas.
No stranger to the training ranks, Richard Litt is full of confidence with the runners left under his care on Saturday’s Carrington Stakes Day.
The first of the engaged runners is six-year-old gelding Canyonero.
Struggling to find the frame of late, Litt believes the son of Pierro is a good chance on a firm surface, and while he is only having his second attempt out past the mile in the 1800m Midway, the booking of Hugh Bowman will aid the veteran in making his presence felt.
Lining up against her stablemate is five-year-old mare Songbird Serenade. The daughter of Fiorente carries solid form into the race, winning two of her last four starts and placing in the others.
In what is the mare’s toughest challenge to date, Litt is thrilled for the owner who has aspired to get their horse a start in a Midway.
“The owner wanted to have a crack at a Midway in Sydney, and this is their chance,” Litt said.
“She’s a very honest mare. If she throws in another honest race like she has been, she will be there (in the finish).
“She’s had a good preparation; I think she’s been well placed. She’s coming to the end of it now, but I think it’s great we can have a crack in the city for the owner’s sake.
The last of Litt’s chances is six-year-old Lancaster Bomber.
Resuming off a 13-week let up, Litt couldn’t be more impressed with how the gelding has returned and expects the son of Denman to make his presence felt when he steps out in the 1100m Benchmark 78 on Saturday.
“He looks awesome, he’s come back in great order,” Litt said.
“If he can race how he normally races, I think he will be there when the whips are cracking.
“With the top weight it’s always nice to get someone like Tyler (Schiller) on board with the claim that’s for sure.
“We are happy with him; we can’t fault the horse at this stage.”
Also back in work is Litt’s boom colt Profondo .
Having concluded his debut campaign in perfect fashion when saluting comprehensively in the 3YO Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes, Litt believes the talented three-year-old has returned in elite condition.
“Robbie Dolan rode him in his first bit of work the other day, he’s (Profondo) going very well,” Litt said.
“He’s a very athletic horse; he’s not a big solid colt, he’s just right really.
“He’s amazing, he makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck when you see him gallop.”
Set to trial earlier next month, it is expected the team will target the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on April 9 at Randwick.
Currently on the second line of betting with tab.com.au, Profondo is an $11 elect to win the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth.
