After securing two feature race victories over the weekend, Zac Lloyd has finalized his bookings for two headline events of the Sydney autumn carnival.
Lloyd will ride Randwick Guineas winner Linebacker at 49kg in the Doncaster Mile (1600m), while Black Opal Stakes hero King Of Pop will be his choice in the Golden Slipper (1200m).
King Of Pop, a Farnan colt, secured his second consecutive win by holding off Farcited, trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. Lloyd is optimistic about the colt’s chances if he makes the Golden Slipper field.
“He gave me a fantastic feel. I had no hesitation in locking in the ride straight after the race,” Lloyd told Sydney’s Sky Racing radio on Wednesday.
“He jumped well, showed professionalism beyond his age, and did everything right.
“Farcited is no slouch, so I think King Of Pop will be a strong contender in the Slipper.”
Lloyd will also take the reins on Linebacker in the Doncaster Mile after expertly guiding the John O’Shea & Tom Charlton-trained three-year-old to a breakthrough Group 1 win.
Linebacker’s victory included toppling Golden Rose champion and Cox Plate placegetter Broadsiding. Now, he is in line to replicate Celestial Legend’s Guineas-Doncaster Mile double from last year.
“I believe they’re planning to give him a four-week lead-up into the Doncaster, similar to Celestial Legend,” Lloyd said.
“As of now, I’m confirmed to ride him in the Doncaster at 49kg.
“It’s a challenge, but not as tough for me as some of the other jockeys. I normally walk around 51.5 to 52kg, so I just need to cut a little weight
