Me Me Lagarde notches important win towards Magic Millions Day

Staying well away from the rail and not having to make her run in between other horses has been key to Me Me Lagarde taking out the Listed Tattersall’s Classic (1200m), and has the mare on a firm path to Magic Millions Day in January.

A fourth win adding to one placing in eight starts had co-trainer Toby Edmonds heralding a positive return to form for the four-year-old mare and also a more regular run of winners for the stable.

Me Me Lagarde’s last win was in the Listed Gold Edition Plate last December which was followed by a second placing in the Magic Millions 3yo Guineas (1400m).

“She has been disappointing since Magic Millions,” Edmonds said.

“We tried hard to get her back for the autumn in Sydney and we went down there on a very heavy track and she didn’t run well.

“We spelled her and she had a poor run on a heavy track again.”

Targeting her previous start at Eagle Farm on October 15 to get back into the winners’ list, Edmonds noted that having to make her run in between horses down the straight was not to her liking on that day.

“She ran well and didn’t have much luck having to go back to last,” he added.

“She didn’t have to do that today and she’s a bloody good filly.”

Using this Tattersall’s Classic as a steppingstone towards the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies and Mares (1300m), Me Me Legarde’s next target is the Listed Just Now Stakes (1300m) at Eagle Farm on December 10.

Me Me Lagarde was the second winner for the day for Edmonds and his training partner, Toby, after Storm The Fortress took out the Coastal Tipper Hire Plate (1350m) for three-year-olds.

“We’ve had a pretty ordinary 18 months – I have to say,” Edmonds said of his own stable’s results.

“We were weight up where we were a couple of years ago but we are steadily working our way back.”

Me Me Lagarde, ridden by Andrew Mallyon, started at $5.50 and held off the challenge from Juan Diva ($3.80 favourite) by a neck margin with Extremist ($15) finished three-quarters of a length away in third.
