Talented sprinter Miss Albania is about to embark on her third campaign, but this time with a difference.

After being prepared at Cranbourne by Enver Jusufovic to win four of her first nine starts, Miss Albania is now in the care of Ballarat trainers Tony and Calvin McEvoy.

Miss Albania has her first outing for her new stable in the VOBIS Gold Comet (1000m) at Flemington on Saturday.

It will be her first start since finishing ninth in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at The Valley in September.

Calvin McEvoy said the stable had received a phone call from ownership group out of the blue to ask if they could take Miss Albania on.

“The ownership group rang up to say they were quite keen to give her a try over the Adelaide carnival,” McEvoy said.

“She’s a very nice mare. She’s only had one trial and will be improved after this weekend, but it’s a VOBIS race that is worth a lot of money.

“She’s only got 53 kilos and Jamie Kah is to ride over the 1000 metres.

“I expect her to run well but with improvement to come out of it.”

McEvoy said the early black type races that come up during the Adelaide Carnival that gets into swing next month would be ideal races for the daughter of Magnus.

And if Miss Albania lives up to expectations, then the stable may broaden their horizons.

“We want to get her to the Adelaide carnival and contest some of the black type races and maybe end up in a (Group 1) Sangster Stakes if she is good enough,” McEvoy said.

Miss Albania has shown straight track promise at Flemington previously.

Three starts ago she defeated Group 1 Oakleigh Plate placegetter Oxley Road over 1100m before running third in Listed grade over 1000m at The Valley.
