Winx will not have a foal in 2023 after connections elected not to seek a new pairing this year after an ill-fated meeting with Snitzel.
The legendary racehorse was put to Arrowfield’s champion stallion last month but the owners on Thursday announced on that she had failed to get in-foal.
“It’s not the update we were hoping to provide, (but) sadly it wasn’t meant to be this year for Winx and Snitzel,” a statement released on behalf of Winx’s owners read.
“Winx is doing very well with her Pierro filly and the decision has been made to give her this year off.”
The four-time Cox Plate winner failing to get in-foal to Snitzel is the latest chapter in what has been a far-from-straight-forward career in the breeding barn for the daughter of Street Cry, who won 37 races, 25 of them at Group 1 level, for more than $26m in stakes.
Her first mating was with I Am Invincible at Yarraman Park but she lost the resultant foal in the spring of 2020.
Winx was given the following breeding season off before being put to Coolmore Stud’s Pierro, a union that produced a filly who was born on October 7 this year.
