Ace jockey Pat Carbery was thrilled to be reacquainted with My Bella Mae last weekend, guiding the exciting filly to her second career victory from as many starts.

The Dion Luciani-trained three-year-old is green and raw and still learning what racing is all about, but shows a stack of ability ahead of another big test on Saturday.

A daughter of Deep Field, My Bella Mae takes on a field of 12 rivals in the $500,000 Listed Tabtouch-Placid Ark Stakes and is currently the $5 third favourite.

Pat Carbery has worked with My Bella Mae enough times to accept she’s a young horse with a bright future that possesses a brilliant turn of foot.

Carbery rode My Bella Mae in two trials, but missed her debut victory after combing with Givemeonereason for trainer Simon Miller in the same race.

“She is still learning and doesn’t really know what she’s doing at the moment,” Carbery told The Races WA.

“She’s doing it on raw ability, so there is more improvement to come which is exciting for everyone.

“She’s speedy with an excellent turn of foot and that’s a great asset to have.

“She’s drawn well and I think she has great prospects if she can continue on.

“She should be in a prominent spot from the draw.

“I have a bit of an opinion of her and it was great to be back on her again.”

My Bella Mae is on the third line of Tabtouch betting, sitting behind All Show ($3.60) and Baby Paris ($4.40).

My Bella Mae and All Show have drawn perfectly in barriers six and five respectively. Baby Paris copped a blow and will jump from barrier 13.

Carbery is chasing his second Placid Ark Stakes success after winning it previously with Miss Bux (2012).

He says the seven day turnaround shouldn’t pose a problem for My Bella Mae.

“Dion is usually a very patient trainer and doesn’t rush his horses,” Carbery said.

“He’ll monitor her during the week to see how she goes.

“The owners are also great people who are in no rush with her.”
