Popular jockey Chloe Azzopardi will quit Perth racing and relocate to Victoria next week.

A winner of 147 races including two black type events, Chloe Azzopardi will team up with up Troy and Leon Corstens at Malua Racing.

A decision primarily to maximise her opportunities in racing, the 24-year-old is confident a move across the Nullarbor will bear fruit.

“I had been thinking about it for a while and now seemed the right time,” Azzopardi told The Races WA.

“I’m really excited by the opportunity of riding five days a week in the country and provincial areas.

“I just want to improve and get better and there are more races and work to be able to do that over there.

“I’m not going to be riding forever and I want to make the most of the opportunities that I have.

“Home will always be here and hopefully being in a new team will be right for me.

“It’s my intention to stay for a minimum of six months, but who knows if it could lead to being away for a couple of years.

“I’m pretty excited by what the future holds for me.”

Azzopardi said familiarity with Malua Racing through her older brother, leading Perth jockey, Joe Azzopardi, will make the transition to Melbourne a little easier.

“Joe was there a few years ago and I went over for a couple of weeks,” Azzopardi said.

“They asked me to come back and I never did.

“I reached out to them this time and they were happy to take me in.”

Azzopardi commenced her apprenticeship in 2012 and rode her first winner on Bintang Bob at Yalgoo.

Her peak victory came last year when she booted home Valour Road in the Group 3 Prince Of Wales Stakes.

It followed her first stakes success aboard Flower Of War in the Listed Cyril Flower Stakes.
