Right You Are may have booked a trip to Tasmania for their upcoming Cup races with an explosive win at Sandown to complete a winning hat-trick.
In a career plagued by a suspensory injury at the end of his four-year-old year, Right You Are is racing in career best form since joining the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable having added the Ladbroke It! Handicap (1800m) on Saturday to his record.
Ridden by Ethan Brown, Right You Are ($3.70) scored a 4-¼ length win from Beltoro ($6) with the $1.65 favourite Detonator Jack a further three-quarters-of-a-length away third.
Brown had Right You Are well positioned tracking the speed set by Nancho, before releasing the breaks at the 400m mark, quickly putting the race beyond doubt.
“Ethan took the race by the scruff of the neck,” Eustace said.
“They weren’t going quick, he knew he was on a fit horse and was able to more that get the job done.
“He’s an older horse now that has had an issue but he’s starting to repay the ownership group.
“He likes fast ground, he likes this sort of trip, and hopefully he can keep going.”
Eustace said the Group 3 Hobart Cup (2400m) on Sunday week may come up too soon, but the Group 3 Launceston Cup (2400m) on February 22 may come under consideration.
He said the Listed Mornington Cup (2400m) in April, which provides the winner a ballot exemption into this year’s Group 1 Caulfield Cup may also come under consideration.
“Whether he stays that far, we’ll have to find out,” Eustace said.
Eustace questioned whether the favourite Detonator Jack ran out a solid 1800m, saying the gelding may be better suited at 1400m or 1600m.
