Ryan Moore to ride Shinzo in the Golden Rose

Coolmore has confirmed that internationally acclaimed jockey Ryan Moore will return to Australia to reunite with Shinzo in the Group 1 Golden Rose.

Moore will replace the injured James Mcdonald, who revealed on Tuesday that doctors had ruled him out of riding for a month due to a fractured foot which he suffered in a race day mishap at Wyong last week.

Moore, who is Colmore’s go-to rider in Europe, was triumphant aboard Shinzo in the Golden Slipper during the autumn and Coolmore wasted little time locking him in for another Sydney trip.

“Ryan Moore is set to reunite with Shinzo in the upcoming G1 Golden Rose,” Coolmore confirmed in an overnight tweet on Wednesday.

Trained by Chris Waller, Shinzo will resume in the Golden Rose (1400m) on September 23 and is currently a $4.50 equal favourite for the feature, alongside Golden Slipper runner-up Cylinder who will contest The Run To The Rose (1200m) on Saturday.

McDonald has been Sydney’s champion jockey for the past five seasons riding many of Waller’s star horses, and while the leading trainer says the hoop will be missed for the next four-weeks of carnival racing, he also says the stable will adapt.

“Yes, it’s tough when you’ve got your high-profile horses and your owners depend on James,” Waller said.

“But that happens all the time, jockeys get suspended.

“He takes time off and we still win races, he takes trips overseas and we still win races, so we’ll still win races.

“And there is one positive I’ve seen from it and that’s you don’t have to beat him because he doesn’t always ride our horses!”
