Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained mare Shout The Bar led all the way at Moonee Valley on Friday night to take out the Group 2 Sunline Stakes.
5YO mare Shout The Bar, trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott has notched up her fifth career win and her third at Group class level, recording a dominant victory in the Group 2 Sunline Stakes at Moonee Valley on William Reid Stakes night.
Ridden by Mark Zahra, the classy mare found the front and never looked like losing, going on to win by 4 lengths over Barb Raider and odds-on favourite Flying Mascot.
Zahra was full of praise for the mare post-race, and partly accredited that to Gai Waterhouse, saying “Gai always fills you full of confidence before the race. She gives them a great chance and said ‘why not roll the dice and give her a bit of help out of the gates’, which I did and she got across.”
“I got her travelling well underneath me but obviously being one of Gai’s I thought I’d step it up from the 600 (metre mark) and then at the 400 and she responded every time and was good to the line.”
Stable representative Claudia Miller echoed the confidence and suggested the firmer track was pivotal.
“We’ve been plagued with wet tracks in Sydney so to get a Good 4 (surface) tonight and over the right distance stepping up to the mile, she was just terrific.”
Miller pointed to the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes at Randwick as Shout The Bar’s next target, which takes place on the second day of the Championships.
