With a start locked away for Sunsource on the Gold Coast, trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young are able to set the right campaign to suit the two-year-old.
As part of that campaign to the Gold Coast next month, Sunsource will have a jump-out going right-handed over 1000m at Cranbourne on Monday, opposed to four rivals.
Sunsource stamped his credentials for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 14 with his debut win, in horrible conditions, in the Magic Millions Ballarat 2YO Classic (1000m) on November 19.
After coming from last early Sunsource recorded a 1-¾ length win, which afforded the colt time in the paddock to get over the run.
“He had nine days in the paddock after Ballarat and we’ve then sent him to the water walker,” Busuttin said.
“He came through the race in excellent order and we’re looking forward to seeing him run again.”
Sunsource was a $370,000 yearling purchase at the Gold Coast last year by Busuttin and Young who have since partnered with Ozzie Kheir, John O’Neill and a big group of owners, while retaining a share in the Zoustar colt themselves.
Kheir and O’Neill tasted Magic Millions success last year on the Gold Coast with the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Coolangatta who during the spring went on to collect the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley.
Busuttin said Sunsource would run in a two-year-old handicap over 1200m at Doomben on New Year’s Eve before heading to the Gold Coast.
“We’ll get to see where he sits in the pecking order for the Magic Millions after he runs in Brisbane,” Busuttin said.
