Sunsource sizzles in the Ballarat Magic Millions 2YO Classic

A colt by Zoustar, he’d shown ability at the jump outs but didn’t show a lot of gate speed which was on show at Ballarat in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic, getting back to last in the field but unleashing a powerful last 600m to win softly on the line by 1- ¾ lengths.

A $370,000 yearling purchase at the Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale and out of a Group 3 winning mare in Patricia Dawn, co-trainer Trent Busuttin was confident the colt would be flying late.

“You could see at the 600 (metres) he was coming up underneath Daniel and even though he was a fair way off them he was looking like he was going to let down,” Busuttin said.

Busuttin confirmed Sunsource would be targeted at the $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 2yo feature in January after impressing the training duo as a yearling.

“Not wow, but very professional. He had three jump-outs and had been straight forward… We won’t get ahead of ourselves, but we’ve got a runner in the race now,” Busuttin said.

The path to the Gold Coast is unclear at this stage however the stable confirmed he would run again despite being confirmed of a start.

“He’ll definitely have one run, maybe two. He’s a big gross colt. Obviously now he’s in the race with the prize money that takes the pressure off. He can have a little let-up now, may be get down to the water walker, but he’s got to have go around right-handed,” Busuttin said.

Jockey Daniel Moor was full of praise for Sunsource post-race and thinks he will measure up in the better two-year-old races next year.

“I believe he’s got the ability to buck the trend of this race being an ordinary form race. Going forward he can train on at three and he’s got a great brain and a great attitude,” Moor said.
