A chance for redemption after finishing outside of the placings in the Golden Slipper will go be the wayside as talented two-year-old Switzerland will undergo surgery to remove bone chips.
Trainer Chris Waller announced on Friday that the valuable Coolmore-owned colt will forgo the remainder of his two-year-old season to remove the small chips from a fetlock.
“We are pleased to have found this issue now to enable him a good break ahead of a Spring where we will be targeting the Group 1 Golden Rose and Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes,” Waller said via X (formerly Twitter).
After winning his first three races including the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on March 9, Switzerland finished eighth within four lengths of the winner Lady Of Camelot in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill seven days ago.
The Golden Rose over 1400-metres in September followed by the Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) for three-year-olds during the Melbourne Cup Carnival sets Waller’s agenda for colt by Snitzel who was a $1.5 million purchase at the 2023 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
