Trainer Annabel Neasham has sent Mrs Patmore to Melbourne in search of securing some black type for the daughter of Snitzel.
A debut second at Canberra last month, Mrs Patmore lines up in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
Mrs Patmore was also among acceptances for another start at Canberra on Friday, but the lure of potential black type for the filly was too good to ignore.
Neasham’s assistant-trainer Todd Pollard said Mrs Patmore was very professional and he was impressed with the way the filly handled herself in her debut outing at Canberra on January 21.
“She went to Canberra the other day and ran a good race,” Pollard told RSN.
“She was beaten by a horse that looks like it has got a bit of ability.
We had accepted for Canberra again on Friday but when we looked at the acceptance, we thought we might as well take the challenge (at Caulfield) as it might be one of the better chances she has of getting some black type.
“And if she can, being a Snitzel filly with some black type on her page, if she could run first three on Saturday, then she could be a valuable filly.”
Pollard is under no illusions at how difficult an assignment it is confronting Mrs Patmore on Saturday.
But the race, on paper anyway, is not as strong as previous editions with five first starters engaged while those that have raced, they a still maidens at this stage of their careers.
Chasing black type is all important for fillies and their future in the breeding barn and Pollard pointed out that Saturday’s contest looked easier than the Listed Lonhro Plate (1000m) at Randwick.
“She still looks up against it and I’m sure there will be plenty of good horses come out of it, but it’s certainly not as strong as what the Lonhro would be in Sydney this weekend,” Pollard said.
