Local trainer Greg Eurell landed first blood on a rain-soaked Cranbourne track when Taut You Could scored a strong debut win.
A brother to O’Tauto, who also won at debut on affected ground at Cranbourne, Taut You Could landed some good bets in taking out the Rhino The Wrecker Plate (1000m) on Saturday.
Ridden by Damian Lane, Taut You Could ($6) scored a long-head win from El Padrino ($9) with Valenconi ($9) a further 2-¼ lengths away third.
“Neville Murdoch from Larneuk Stud had the mare, unfortunately she’s not with us anymore, but everything she did have can run,”Eurell said.
“And this guy has been no exception.
“He’s a little bit more precocious than what O’Tauto was, but at this stage he’s doing everything right and it was the right time to bring him to the races.”
Eurell said while the son of O’Lonhro was having his first start, Eurell had been impressed by the gelding’s tenacity in his jump-outs.
“I said to Damian ‘the more you ask the more he’ll keep giving’,” Eurell said.
“That’s the style of horse he’s shown us all the way through.
“I think the 1000 metres is not necessarily his go, but he’s a good, tough competitor and he got away with it.
“I have no doubt probably 1200 metres, 1400 metres, a bit further on in his career would be a more suitable trip for him.”
Eurell said he would have a look at the calendar to try and work out a summer campaign for the gelding.
“We’ll have to have a good look at it now if he holds up alright,” Eurell said.
“He’s been very good in the stable, he’s a tremendous doer. Hopefully there’s a bit more left in the tank but he’s heading in the right direction.”
