The Astrologist eyeing slot in The Quokka

Connections of TABtouch-Gold Rush (1400m) winner The Astrologist want to get the star galloper back to Perth for April’s Quokka (1200m) at Ascot.

The Astrologist ensured he wouldn’t leave Perth empty handed by winning Saturday’s $1.5 million feature, following his unplaced effort in last month’s Winterbottom Stakes (1200m).

With the TABtouch-Gold Rush on its way back to Victoria, The Astrologist’s part-owner Nathan Bennett said he would welcome any calls from Quokka slot holders.

“We’re hoping to get a slot holder that wants to get him on and get him back over there,” Bennett told TABradio.

“If anyone is looking for a horse that’s going to travel over there well, we’re keen to put it in our schedule.

“Everyone in WA has been fantastic.

“It’s been a fantastic experience.”

Bennett said while he was yet to receive any calls from slot holders, SEN was one that had shown interest in The Astrologist.

The Astrologist delivered William Pike his first blacktype win of the Pinnacles, with the champion jockey lifting the gelding over the closing stages to hold off a game Kissonallforcheeks.

Bennett said The Astrologist would now target next year’s Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m), a race he ran second in this year, and hoped Pike would commit to the ride.

“We’re definitely going to go back to the Newmarket for sure,” he said.

“I’m pretty sure he doesn’t get a penalty because it was a Group 3.

“I’m pretty sure he would run with 52.5 kilos again.

“Hopefully Willie Pike can get down to the 52.5 and come over for it.”

Amelia’s Jewel is the $4.20 TABtouch favourite for the Quokka, ahead of Kissonallforcheeks ($7), My Bella Mae ($8) and The Astrologist ($10).
