Tentyris, a standout two-year-old, will not be racing for the remainder of the season after Anthony & Sam Freedman confirmed an injury following his fast-finishing victory in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.
“Tentyris was found to be lame after his impressive win in the Group 2 Todman Stakes at Randwick on Saturday. A thorough vet’s assessment has revealed an injury to his left hind leg,” the stable announced in a social media post.
“Unfortunately, this will put an end to his autumn campaign, and he will not take his place in the Group 1 Golden Slipper.”
“This is very disappointing for the horse and his connections. He is a very exciting colt going forward and we look forward to having him back for the 2025 Spring Carnival.”
The talented colt was a dead-heat winner in the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) and narrowly missed out in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m), finishing second to Devil Night.
His impressive performance at Randwick saw him defeat Wodeton, who has since drifted in betting to $5 for the Golden Slipper, now co-favourite alongside Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) winner Tempted.
Anthony Freedman was instrumental in training four consecutive Golden Slipper winners in the 1990s under his brother Lee’s name. However, his son Sam is still chasing his first victory in the prestigious race, having placed sixth with Artorius in 2021 and fourth with Daumier in 2022.
