Trap For Fools has been allocated top weight of 59kg in the $400,000 Group 2 Perth Cup (2400m) at Ascot on New Year’s Day.
The Lindsey Smith -trained eight-year-old is rated 3kg superior to Platoon who ran fifth in the 2021 edition of the Perth Cup.
One of two entrants for trainer Neville Parnham, Platoon ran a slashing second behind Regal Power in Saturday’s Ted Van Heemst Stakes (2100m).
Stable mate and defending Perth Cup champion, Neufbosc is at 55.5kg.
Tellem We’re Comin has been allotted 54.5kg and Marocchino and Dig Deep 53.5kg, the only other cup entrants handicapped above the 53kg minimum.
Current Perth Cup market leaders Pure Devotion ($4.60),Black Shadow ($5.50) and Midnight Blue ($5.50), are on the 53kg minimum.
The trio of will have their final runs before the Perth Cup in Wednesday’s A.T.A. Stakes (2200m).
