Zardozi aims to continue Godolphin’s Australian Cup dominance

Godolphin and trainer James Cummings are aiming for a third straight win in the Australian Cup, with Zardozi stepping out on Saturday.

Cascadian won the prestigious 2000m event in 2023 and 2024, both with Ben Melham riding. This year, Jamie Melham will partner Zardozi as she seeks her first win in the race.

While Cascadian was a seasoned campaigner, Zardozi is still progressing, despite a Group 1 win already under her belt. Cummings is optimistic about her chances, especially with the rise to 2000m and a return to Flemington.

“Zardozi has been in tough races, so we are confident she’s in good form,” Cummings said. “We’ve focused on process over prize.”

Zardozi’s most recent run was a solid second in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes at Caulfield.

Cummings is also considering Zardozi for the Doncaster Mile, the Queen Of The Turf, and the Sydney Cup after this weekend’s race, but will reassess her options following the Australian Cup.
