All-Star Mile – Winner – No. 12 Inspirational Girl
She’s one of the best milers in the country, and I think that Inspirational Girl will deliver prominent owner Bob Peters his second All-Star Mile win.
The Reliable Man mare was outstanding during the 2020 Perth Summer Carnival, and won the Railway Stakes before finishing second in the Kingston Town Classic.
It has taken her a couple of preps to re-find her best on the east coast, but she was nothing short of outstanding in the Blamey Stakes here a fortnight ago, and I think that she can and will be making it two in a row over the route on Saturday.
All-Star Mile – 2nd – No. 2 Zaaki
He finished second behind Inspirational Girl when resuming, his condition might have just given way a little, and I’m expecting that Blamey Stakes form to hold up with Zaaki running into the All-Star Mile quinella.
He was a good horse in the UK prior to his purchase, but he has gone to another level under Annabel Neasham, and Zaaki recorded arguably the best performance of the entire season last year when giving his rivals windburn in the Doomben Cup.
He unfortunately missed his Grand Final when scratched the more of the Cox Plate in spring, but he did add both the Underwood Stakes and the Mackinnon Stakes to his resume, and his first-up effort this time suggested he’s in for another glittering preparation.
All-Star Mile – 3rd – No. 15 Pinstriped
It was a sickening watch for all of us engaged in the Australian Guineas, and I’ve got Pinstriped bouncing back with another big effort in the All-Star Mile.
The Street Boss gelding stamped himself as a galloper to follow when recording a near six-length win on debut at Moe in September, and he resumed this time with another smart run and win in a rich VOBIS race at The Valley.
He continued his rise through the grades by winning the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes, and Pinstriped still managed to finish a very credible fifth in the Australian Guineas, despite everything that happened (go and take a look, if you haven’t seen it).
He takes his place in this contest rock-hard fit, and he looks to have the ability to compete!
All-Star Mile – 4th – No. 11 Sierra Sue
Given that there is a case to be made for almost every horse in the 2022 All-Star Mile field, I’m throwing one into my selection who I think is wildly over the odds, and that is Sierra Sue.
When she recorded a nice win in the Mildura Cup last year, I doubt even trainers Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young expected her to reach the peaks that she has, but how good is horse racing!?
Sierra Sue is now a two-time Group 1 winner, including the Futurity Stakes last time out, and she has found form around some of the best horses in the country.
The question mark being whether or not she’ll be as effective over a mile as she is 1400m, but she’s fit, looks great and I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see her in the finish again.
