Black Caviar Lightning Stakes Tips, Bets and Race Preview – 2022

The Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning will be run over the short course of 1000m down the famous Flemington straight is always a fascinating race to dissect.

Of course the great mare Black Caviar won the race three times herself but it has been won by champion sprinters including Schillaci (92,93), Mahogany (95,97), Miss Andretti (07) and more recently Chautauqua in 2016.

Black Caviar Lightning Stakes – Winner – No. 1 Nature Strip

The champion sprinter closed out his last prep with wins in The Everest and VRC Classic and he has an good record first up from a spell.

He has had two lead up trials and a jump out leading into this first up assignment and on ratings he will be tough to beat and he may just be too sharp for a lot of these horses over the short course.

Black Caviar Lightning Stakes – 2nd – No. 2 Eduardo

The punters continue to underrate this horse who has enjoyed a truly fantastic 18 months on the race track.

He has shown his toughness many times now including in all three of runs last prep which netted him two wins.

The eight year old gelding was beaten only half a length in The Everest and has missed a place only once first up from a spell.

Black Caviar Lightning Stakes – 3rd – No. 4 Gytrash

Gytrash is another extremely consistent performer who has managed to place in 23 of his 27 career race starts.

He runs into a very good field in this particular Group 1 event but the key to him is the short course.

The six year old gelding has won seven of eight starts over 1000m and his fresh record is very good.

Black Caviar Lightning Stakes – 4th – No. 8 Home Affairs

Anamoe was impressive during his spring campaign but this colt was arguably even more impressive.

He was no match for them in The Everest despite being well supported in betting but his win in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes down the Flemington straight was one of the better wins you will likely see.

That was against his own age though and he is attempting to tackle some of the best sprinters in the world first up.

He has plenty of potential but, like many racing fans, I am keen to see how he returns in the mounting yard before launching.
