Some extremely talented horses have won the Chipping Norton Stakes, and another will join the list at Royal Randwick on Saturday afternoon.
It was dominated by Winx for many years, but trainer Chris Waller’s success in the Chipping Norton Stakes extends beyond the equine superstar, and he has incredibly prepared nine of the last eleven winners.
Will he add another to the list on Saturday? Either way, you can find my 2022 Chipping Norton Stakes Tips below.
Chipping Norton Stakes – Winner – No. 1 Think It Over
I think that Think It Over is the best miler in the country, and he can record another Group 1 victory in this year’s Chipping Norton Stakes.
He always hinted at above-average ability, but Think It Over really started to realise it in 2021, and he broke through for his first (and only so far) Group 1 win in the George Ryder Stakes last autumn.
He didn’t scale top level heights again throughout his proceeding campaign(s), but Kerry Parker’s placement in the spring was nothing short of outstanding, and Think It Over won each of the Hill Stakes, Craven Plate and Rosehill Cup for some very lucrative paydays.
His resuming effort and win over a lot of these rivals in the Apollo Stakes was bullish, and he’ll only improve for that effort and getting out to 1600m.
Chipping Norton Stakes – 2nd – No. 8 Verry Elleegant
She was simply too far back and was probably a little underdone in the Apollo Stakes as well, but there is little doubt that reigning Chipping Norton Stakes winner Verry Elleegant will improve for that effort, and she’ll also relish the rise in trip.
The ten-time Group 1 winner gained legendary status in 2021, and you really don’t need me to go over it all again, but the Melbourne Cup effort was nothing short of special.
She is drawn a peach this weekend and she can fight out the finish.
Chipping Norton Stakes – 3rd – No. 11 Hungry Heart
I thought that she might return a competitive fresh effort in the Apollo Stakes and she did, and the Chipping Norton Stakes also looms as an ideal second-up target for Hungry Heart.
The well-bred mare made herself an extremely valuable breeding prospect when recording consecutive wins in the Vinery Stud Stakes and the Australian Oaks last autumn, and while didn’t return to winning form in the spring, she still managed some quality performances and results.
Her fresh effort suggested that she’s in for another glittering campaign, and I think that she can fight into the Chipping Norton Stakes trifecta.
Chipping Norton Stakes – 4th – No. 9 Colette
I’m clearly liking the Apollo Stakes form here, and second placegetter Colette can return another competitive performance in the Chipping Norton.
Colette won the Australian Oaks and The Golden Eagle during an impressive 2020 campaign, and managed to return to similar peaks during a 2021 Spring Carnival campaign that was highlighted by a win in the Group 1 Empire Rose.
She’ll relish a heavy track and Timmy Clark retains the ride.
