Doomben 10,000 Day at Eagle Farm Horse Racing Tips, Best Bets and Race Previews – 14/5/2022

The first Group 1 feature race of the Brisbane Winter Carnival headlines an exciting edition of Doomben 10,000 Day at Eagle Farm!

You read that right; the program as been moved from Doomben to Eagle Farm in a bid to utilise the superior drainage at the latter course, so poor has the weather been in Brisbane this week.

There are nine winners to be found, I think that I’ve unearthed at least a few of them below in my 2022 Doomben 10,000 Day Tips!

Preview brought to you by Neds. Learn more about Neds HERE.

CLASS 6 PLATE (1000M) – 11:48AM

Tip: No. 10 Boomnova

Not the easiest way to begin Doomben 10,000 Day from a betting perspective, but I am going to have something on Boomnova.

Boomnova has continued to improve with racing recently and followed-up a couple of runner-up performances with a lovely win at Eagle Farm last time.

She’s rock-hard fit, gets into this race well and can continue her rise through the grades.

CHANNEL 7 MEMBERS’ HANDICAP (1600M) – 12:23PM

Tip: No. 8 Diamil

I think that a trip north will see a return to winning form for the John O’Shea-trained Diamil.

Diamil was a dominant winner over some good horses at Warwick Farm in late March, but has only managed to finish midfield in a couple of tougher races since.

He steps out this week in peak order and under Jamie Kah, this is his opportunity to strike.

GROUP 3 JRA CHAIRMAN’S HANDICAP (2143M) – 12:58PM

Tip: No. 1 Yonkers

Yonkers can return to winning form in this Group 3 race.

The six-year-old gelding has gone from strength to strength in each preparation for Chris Waller and recorded an impressive Group 2 win in the Shannon Stakes last spring.

He is yard to salute in four starts back this year, but he hasn’t been too far away and this is the easiest task that he has been set.

STRADBROKE CALCUTTA 3YO PLATE (1400M) – 1:33PM

Tip: No. 10 Startantes

Startantes is over the odds as a $3 favourite in this race, in my opinion.

She looks the perfect Stradbroke horse and the Star Turn filly was unlucky not to taste success at the highest level in autumn when finishing a nose second in the Surround Stakes.

She kept her best work for last when fourth in the Victory Stakes a fortnight ago, this is a big drop in class from that race and she is my best bet of the day.

GROUP 2 SPIRIT OF BOOM CLASSIC (1200M) – 2:08PM

Tip: No. 2 Brereton

The former Champagne Classic has drawn a classy field of two-year-olds, including Brereton.

Brereton has returned some very pleasing efforts in his short racing career so far and broke his maiden in the Maribyrnong Plate in spring.

He takes his place in this race second-up and following a decent effort for fourth in the Dalrello Stakes here and I am confident that he will enjoy big improvement for that hit-out.

LISTED BRIGHT SHADOW QUALITY (1200M) – 2:43PM

Tip: No. 4 Kisukano

I am a big fan of Kisukano, and I think that she can win an open edition of the Bright Shadow.

She was the only horse to defeat Rothfire during their two-year-old season, and while she hasn’t hit the highs of that galloper, Kisukano has picked off some nice races of her own.

She steps out this week in peak order, gets into the race well and we can have an each-way play at around the $10 mark.

GROUP 3 ROUGH HABIT PLATE (2143M) – 3:22PM

Tip: No. 1 Character

It has been won by some talented three-year-olds in recent years and I think that Character will join the list of Rough Habit Plate winners this weekend.

Character has been a great horse for Godolphin since making his debut, he has returned to the races in typically smart form this time, winning three of six.

He was too good in the Queensland Guineas a fortnight ago, and getting out to this trip looks ideal at this point of his preparation.

GROUP 1 DOOMBEN 10,000 (1200M) – 4:02PM

Tip: No. 10 Paulele

Mazu has opened a reasonably firm favourite in Doomben 10,000 betting, but I am taking him on with Paulele!

BUNDABERG RUM BM85 HANDICAP (1400M) – 4:38PM

Tip: No. 12 Palladas

Palladas can win the last on Doomben 10,000 Day.

The I Am Invincible gelding has been a consistent performer for the Gollan stable since debuting and he was last seen finishing fourth over 1200m here at Eagle Farm.

He’ll take plenty of improvement into this race and will enjoy the small rise in trip.
