A little midweek reshuffle to Eagle Farm, but Group 1 racing returns to Brisbane for the first time this year, and we’ll be treated to another outstanding edition of the Doomben 10,000.
Year on year, this race has continued to go from strength to strength, and some of the best sprinters in the country will chase their share in a cool $1 million on Saturday afternoon.
Doomben 10,000 – Winner
No. 10 Paulele
I’m siding with Paulele in the Doomben 10,000.
He’s looked a serious Group 1 threat throughout his career and I think that this is the perfect race for him.
The Dawn Approach colt returned some huge performances in some good sprints through the spring, plus he returned a winner this year in the Eskimo Prince Stakes.
He didn’t make an impact in The Galaxy, but charged home to finish third behind Nature Strip and Eduardo in the TJ Smith Stake and I think that is the form to follow here.
James McDonald rides from a good draw and I think this will be another Group 1 winner for his increasingly impressive tally!
Doomben 10,000 – 2nd
No. 1 Kementari
He couldn’t, could he?
I genuinely think that Kementari can win the Doomben 10,000 and he can certainly run into the quinella with his stable mate.
The enigmatic galloper has been the bane of punters’ existence a lot since returning from a failed career at stud, but he was nothing short of outstanding when returning a winner in the Hall Mark Stakes last month.
He’s been back to the trials since that effort, we know he has the ability when he puts it all together and any improvement will see him into the finish of this race.
Doomben 10,000 – 3rd
No. 9 Mazu
He’s opened a pretty clear favourite in Doomben 10,000 betting and clearly, it wouldn’t shock to see Mazu crowned our winner, but I am going to take him on at current odds.
The Maurice gelding ended his last prep with a lovely win in the Brian Crowley Stakes, and he picked up where he left off with an easy win at Rosehill in February.
Since then, he hasn’t looked back, winning each of his three subsequent starts in impressive fashion.
He too has been back to the trials and he’ll take beating.
Doomben 10,000 – 4th
No. 3 Count De Rupee
He recorded an outstanding win in the Group 2 Victory Stakes a fortnight ago, and Count De Rupee is primed for another big performance in the Doomben 10,000.
The Real Impact gelding has been a revelation for the Price yard for a couple of seasons now and he only just missed in The Golden Eagle in spring, before ending his prep with a lucrative win in The Gong.
His first two starts back this year left a little to the imagination, but he only just missed behind Special K in the Hall Mark before arriving in Queensland for his impressive win over many of these rivals.
