Race 1: Listed Lonhro Plate (1000m) – 11:25pm
Tip: No. 4 Zambezi River
The Chris Waller trained Zambezi River has accepted into the feature race later in the day but if he contests the first, he is a live chance also.
The son of I Am Invincible finished third in his only start back in October in the Group 3 Breeders’ Plate at this track and distance and a repeat of that effort would see him go close here.
His two trials leading in were full of merit.
Race 2: Highway Handicap (1200m) – 1:00pm
Tip: No. 9 Very Sharp
I managed to find the winner of the corresponding Highway race last weekend at $27 and I’ve found another at a big price in the race on Saturday.
Very Sharp was beaten just over a race in a Highway race back in August last year at this track and then followed that up with a victory at Dubbo.
She won a trial leading into her first up third at Gosford and she looks well over the odds at $26 at time of publish.
Race 3: Benchmark 72 Handicap (1600m) – 1:35pm
Tip: No. 13 Tycoon Hallie
Tycoon Hallie has returned two nice efforts so far this prep at Newcastle and will be ready to peak at her third run.
The lightly raced four year old mare has been placed in six of her nine career starts to date including her last five in a row.
She will get the benefit of jumping from barrier five and the blinkers have been added for the first time.
Race 4: Benchmark 94 Handicap (1000m) – 2:10pm
Tip: No. 1 Malkovich
Malkovich is an absolute speedster and he gets a very winnable race first up in this event.
He was runner up in all three of his starts last prep including a narrow defeat in The Warra at Kembla Grange.
The son of Choisir has never finish outside the top two in six runs at this distance and his win in a recent trial suggests he is ready to go.
Race 5: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1600m) – 2:45pm
Tip: No. 5 Yukon
This time last year Yukon was a winner over the mile at The Valley and his first up third at Royal Randwick suggests he is going just as well.
The four year old has been placed in eight of his 11 career race starts and looks well placed in this particular race.
Race 6: Inglis Millennium (1100m) – 3:25pm
Tip: No. 14 Paris Dior
The Snowden team and James McDonald team up with Paris Dior in the feature race.
The daughter of Pierro broke through for her maiden win at Canterbury last time out by over three lengths and there is plenty of improvement in the talented filly.
This is a very competitive race but with luck in running, she is the horse to beat.
Race 7: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1300m) – 4:05pm
Tip: No. 6 Amiche
Amiche is going far better than her form on paper suggests.
She was given six weeks in between runs after a disappointing first up effort but she was not beaten far in a benchmark 88 last time out.
I love the fact that she had had a nice trial win between runs and she will appreciate the drop in grade for this event.
Race 8: Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) – 4:45pm
Tip: No. 4 Paulele
The James Cummings trained Paulele is a very talented young colt who has five wins from 10 career race starts.
He was no match for them in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington but prior to that he won the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes at this track and distance.
He has accepted at Caulfield as well but he will be tough to beat whichever option they chose.
Race 9: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1200m) – 5:25pm
Tip: No. 6 Broken Arrows
Broken Arrows is a much better chance than his price suggests in the penultimate race of the afternoon at Royal Randwick.
He returned a really good effort when winning at Warwick Farm first up and followed that with a nice third at this track last time out.
$17 at time of publish is overs.
Race 10: Open Handicap (1600m) – 6:00pm
Tip: Boxed Trifecta 2/4/6/12
