The Neds Oakleigh Plate is always an outstanding and open contest, and some quality sprinters will chase Group 1 glory at Caulfield on Saturday afternoon.
Marabi has been nothing short of outstanding since making her debut, and with an unbeaten record on the line, it comes as no real surprise that she has opened a clear favourite in Neds Oakleigh Plate betting.
Do I have her on top though? Check out my complete 2022 Neds Oakleigh Plate Tips below to find out.
Neds Oakleigh Plate – Winner – No. 3 Jonker
Marabi is a classy mare, but this is easily the toughest task of her career to date, and I think a more seasoned horse like Jonker will win.
Jonker has been a strong and largely consistent performer throughout his career, but he has certainly gone to a new level since joining Tony Gollan’s yard.
A win at the Magic Millions last year was franked with placing efforts in both The Galaxy and the Kingsford-Smith Cup in the autumn and early winter, while he broke through for an elusive Group 1 win in the Manikato Stakes in October.
He’s had the benefit of a nice trial in the lead-up to his return, his fresh record is good, and the $13 about him in Neds Oakleigh Plate betting at publish is overs, in my opinion.
Neds Oakleigh Plate – 2nd – No. 5 Marabi
She’ll be there for a long way I’m sure, and Marabi has to go into my Neds Oakleigh Plate quinella.
Marabi stamped herself as a galloper to follow with a dominant win on debut at Pakenham in February last year, and she has continued to improve with racing and as the bar has been raised.
She was a comfortable winner over some talented horses in the Group 2 Australia Stakes last time, and if she is going to win a Group 1 race, it’s probably this one.
Neds Oakleigh Plate – 3rd – No. 12 Ingratiating
I think that Ingratiating is going to enjoy big improvement from a fair first-up run for fifth in the Rubiton Stakes a fortnight ago, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in the finish at Neds Oakleigh Plate odds of $26 (at publish).
The Frosted colt has been a great horse for Godolphin since debuting, placing in both the Neds Blue Diamond and the Golden Slipper during his two-year-old season, and filling the minors behind Jonker in the Manikato most notably in spring.
He’s yet to finish worse than second in three previous second-up attempts and with only 50kgs in tow this week, I think he can fight out the finish.
Neds Oakleigh Plate – 4th – No. 13 General Beau
General Beau is another three-year-old who looks a competitive chance in the Neds Oakleigh Plate.
The Brazen Beau colt was another standout performance during last season’s major Victorian two-year-old races, and he performed consistently through a spring prep that was highlighted by a win over 1000m here at Caulfield.
He absolutely flies fresh and is also treated extremely well at the weights.
