It’s the smallest Group 1 race in terms of runners accepted on Day 2 of The Championships, but there is no denying that the Queen Elizabeth Stakes is also the contest of the day.
Verry Elleegant, Zaaki, Anamoe and Duais are just an example of the nine gallopers in the 2022 Queen Elizabeth Stakes field, and it could very well prove to be the standout race of the entire season.

Suggested Bets
- 4 Units straight out #7 Duais
- Boxed Trifecta of the selections below
Queen Elizabeth Stakes – Winner – No. 7 Duais
I actually can’t quite believe that I am saying this, but I think that Duais will be the 2022 Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner.
She was clearly a decent horse when she won the Queensland Oaks last year, but that was a pretty weak Group 1 race all things considered, and in the spring, I thought she’d measure up to being a decent Group 2/3 middle-distance horse.
Duais has just gone to another level this time in, though, and she’s chasing a third-consecutive Group 1 crown following triumphs in the Australian Cup and Tancred Stakes.
It was the way that she put them away in the Tancred that truly captured me, and I don’t think the drop back in trip will be anything of a problem.
Queen Elizabeth Stakes – 2nd – No. 9 Anamoe
Anamoe is clearly a star as well, I am a huge fan, and I also wouldn’t be shocked to see him as the Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner.
He simply doesn’t know how to run a bad race, and Anamoe has been the best of his generation throughout his career, winning the Inglis Sires’ at two, adding the Neds Caulfield Guineas in the spring and going within a bee’s you-know-what of winning the Cox Plate as well.
He’s stripped fitter for each of his four starts back this time, and steps out in winning form this week after destroying them in the Rosehill Guineas.
Queen Elizabeth Stakes – 3rd – No. 6 Verry Elleegant
She could very well come out and absolutely charge in again, as she’s done so many times, but I just thought that Verry Elleegant didn’t look her best in the Ranvet Stakes, and a couple of these rivals might have her number.
The Zed mare is a champion of the turf, has won double-digits Group 1 titles and will be a genuine threat in an Arc in October this year.
Of course, James McDonald rides, she’s the Queen Elizabeth Stakes defending champ, and she can absolutely win.
Queen Elizabeth Stakes – 4th – No. 2 Zaaki
How am I putting Zaaki out of the Queen Elizabeth Stakes trifecta?? It just goes to show how good this race is going to be.
He owned arguably the performance of the entire season when he won last year’s Doomben Cup, and he added the Underwood Stakes and Mackinnon to his resume in the spring, having been scratched from the Cox Plate on the morning of the race.
Zaaki has had two starts back this time, proving too good in the All-Star Mile last time, and he’s ready for the 2000m, and a rain-affected track third-up.
I must sound like a broken record, but again, I wouldn’t be shocked to see him win.
